Meet Stuart Mitchell, PipeSense’s President and CTO

With 28 years of experience working in the pipeline integrity management sector of the Oil and Gas industry, including more than 20 years working to develop and commercialize innovative technologies, Stuart Mitchell joins PipeSense as President and CTO.

Recently involved in developing and commercializing leak detection technologies, Stuart will utilize his vast experience to drive our technology strategy and deliver success to clients.

> What inspired you to establish PipeSense?

Through my experience in previous roles and from my perspective, it was clear that there remained a serious shortfall in the quality of pipeline leak detection available to pipeline operators. This shortfall has been made even more prominent against a background of heightened public and regulatory focus on minimizing the impact of uncontrolled pipeline releases.

The need to provide improved technologies to help pipeline operators in their vital role of safely transporting Oil & Gas internationally was a key driver in establishing PipeSense. So far, working with the hugely talented team here is delivering!

> What are you hoping to bring to the industry through PipeSense?

The goal is to develop and deliver pipeline leak detection and monitoring technologies that work reliably under the real-life conditions.

We want to ensure pipeline operators have a clear and effective choice in a very complex and poorly defined area where they are required to provide pipeline leak detection but currently have little in the way of effective existing solutions. We want to spread confidence in the industry that operators can come to us and have their needs met.

> How are you going to utilize your previous experience to help drive PipeSense’s profile within the industry and establish the brand and vision?

In my experience, technology and company brands develop and grow by consistently delivering on your commitments to your clients and having technology that, to put it simply, works – without compromise.

At PipeSense, we have a strong culture of working in collaborative partnerships with our clients to ensure we meet their needs and provide solutions that deliver actual value.

> What separates PipeSense from existing operators in the market?

What separates us is our ability to provide highly flexible technology solutions that locate leaks quickly and accurately without the risk of damaging false positives. Since we can apply our technology across a broad range of pipeline configurations, operational scenarios, and pipeline contents, our clients don’t face the operational complexity of using various providers and technologies to cover their varied pipeline assets or compromising with using technologies in less-than-ideal scenarios.

> Where do you hope to see PipeSense in the next 3 – 5 years?

To be the provider of pipeline monitoring and leak detection technologies that operators seek when they require protection of their pipeline assets and want to enhance operational efficiency.
