The end to false positives: A brief history

When the right group of people comes together at the right time, the result can be epic. PipeSense is case in point. Two years ago, our diverse team of grey hairs, operators, engineers, business masterminds and all-around problem-solvers joined forces to do the unthinkable: end false positives by developing pipeline technologies that just work. Talk about a novel idea.

What followed was a period of intense whiteboarding, workshopping, developing, testing, iterating, rinsing and repeating, erasing, brainstorming, redeveloping, testing some more and, finally, launching PipeSense’s flagship technology. For operators, it’s epic. For false positives, it’s lethal. And for our team, it’s a testament to that magic combination of common sense, technical excellence and relentless innovation. We’ve been tapping into it ever since.

Ending false positives isn’t for the faint of heart. That’s why we’re proud to be a Charps company. It’s a family of brands where common sense comes naturally, technical excellence is the baseline and every product, solution and service just works.

A glimpse into our “common sense” culture

Over the years, the PipeSense team has grown along with our solution offering. But we’re still driven by a shared passion for protecting communities and the environment through pipeline technologies that deliver on their promise, every time. Because with so much on the line, there’s simply no time for nonsense. (Now if only that mantra were applied to weather forecasting, tax loopholes and the whole “aliens built the pyramids” thing.)

But in all seriousness, we’re on a critical mission.

We fight to protect communities and the environment through pipeline technology solutions that work.

And we’re driven by these values.

A relentless drive to reach technical excellence.
Working together.
Straightforward, respectful communication.
An “innovate always” culture.

Don’t judge a timeline by its number of entries

Our history may be short, but it’s packed with common sense innovation — the kind that has already changed the game for countless operators.

2018

A diverse team of innovators begins work on an audacious goal: ending false positives. Leak detection managers wait impatiently, hoping to finally see an effective solution in their lifetimes.

PipeSense, as we’re known today, begins hunting leaks and demoralizing false positives.

2024 Q1

PipeSense opens two state-of-the-art sites, one in Texas and one in Minnesota, to enable real-time testing of our hallmark technology. (Want to see it for yourself? Schedule a free demo.)

2024 Q1

PipeGuard, our permanent leak detection solution, officially enters the market. Now free from false positives, leak detection managers celebrate by vacationing en masse, picking up woodworking and bingeing Yellowstone Seasons 1-5.

2024 Q1

The PipeSense team begins work on applying its core technology to another pipeline enigma: hydrotesting. Operators and contractors alike wonder what we’ll think of next.

2024 Q2

PipeTest enters the market, representing the first significant change to hydrotesting technology since the 1950s. No, really.

2024 Q3

PipeSense applies our hallmark technology to locating obstructions, stuck pigs and pre-existing leaks. PipeScan soon joins our suite of products and services that just work.

2025 Q1

Our customer base steadily grows, with PipeScan locating its 14th stuck pig and PipeTest completing its 28th hydrotest. What doesn’t grow? False positives stemming from our technology. Those remain at zero.

2025 Coming Q3

PipeSense launches our smart pig, which revolutionizes how operators think about locating troublesome existing leaks. In addition to collecting critical operational insights, the pig also comes when its name is called — though we haven’t yet determined whether that functionality will make the chopping block

Supporting communities is a no-brainer

Protecting communities and the environment they call home; that’s the heart of the PipeSense mission. This commitment extends to everything we do, from the way we develop and test our technology all the way down to how we build our team. Because there’s nothing less sustainable than undetected leaks, wishy-washy hydrotest results or a partner who’s not fully committed to uplifting the communities you serve.
